Perched atop Jakhoo Hill, the highest point in Shimla at around 8,000 feet above sea level, Jakhoo Temple is an ancient and revered shrine dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Surrounded by thick alpine forests and offering panoramic views of the Shivalik ranges and Shimla town, the temple is both a religious site and a scenic viewpoint.
According to legend, during the epic battle of the Ramayana, Lord Hanuman stopped at this very hilltop while searching for the Sanjeevani herb to save Lakshmana. It is believed that his giant footprints are still imprinted on the rock near the temple.
The main highlight is the 108-foot-tall statue of Lord Hanuman, which stands as one of the tallest Hanuman statues in the world. Visible from various points in Shimla, it adds a majestic presence to the skyline.
Jakhoo Temple is accessible by road, a short hike, or via the Jakhoo ropeway, which offers a scenic ride from the Ridge.
Apart from its religious significance, the temple attracts tourists for its peaceful atmosphere, mischievous monkeys, and unmatched views — making it a must-visit for anyone exploring Shimla.
