Summer Hill

Just 5 kilometers from Shimla’s main city, Summer Hill is a peaceful and scenic suburb located at an altitude of 2,123 meters. Surrounded by dense forests of pine and deodar, it offers a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Known for its cool climate and natural charm, Summer Hill is one of the seven hills that make up Shimla. It is also famous for its historical connection — Mahatma Gandhi once stayed here at Manorville House during his visits to Shimla. This gives the place both historical and cultural significance.

The area is also home to the Himachal Pradesh University, lending a youthful and intellectual vibe to its calm surroundings. Visitors often enjoy peaceful walks, nature photography, and the serene views of valleys and snow-covered mountains.

Summer Hill has its own stop on the Kalka–Shimla toy train route, offering one of the most scenic train journeys in India. Whether you’re a history buff, a student, or a nature lover, Summer Hill welcomes you with tranquility, greenery, and a touch of colonial charm.
